I think this guy is pretty good. It's interesting to hear about the day to day operations of the white house, and what it takes to keep things running. He just called the supreme court the supremes. I don't know how I feel about that.
I've only gone 1.79 miles on the treadmill today. I just drank a lot of chocolate soy milk and I'm having trouble keeping up with 1.8 miles per hour. that's really pathetic.
Now the guys drinking a little bullet bottle of seltzer or something. It's tough to look cool when you are drinking from a tiny bottle. I think it's tough to look cool when you are interacting with anything that's less than half of it's normal size.

Max Frankel and Dennis Ross
Max Frankel - I don't know much about jfk and his presidency, so this should be pretty informative. This guys upper lip looks like a mustache, even though he doesn't have one. Interesting. I like the phrase "balance of perception."
I just got a phone call so I missed the end of his speech. Whaps.
Dennis Ross - I think this guy was one of the head negotiators in the Palestine Israel talks under Clinton. I think I remember Clinton referring to him in "My Life."
"The measure of diplomacy isn't just what you achieve but what your prevent." that's a pretty good line by ross.
Frankel is talking about Bush's lack of introspection, and saying again that leaders need to be able to cross-examine the intelligence and information that is given to them.
Ross is talking about Palestinian corruption. I wonder what the best way is to root out corruption in an organization.
"It's not enough to be strong. It's not enough to have courage. You also have to be wise." another good line by Ross.
Max Frankel used to be a white house correspondant, covering Johnson.
That's the end of the discussion. Coming up next is Donna Brazile and David Brooks, that should be a pretty interesting comparison of opinions.

done for friday afternoon
Ok, that was pretty good for the first day. Normally I would do more but Sandra the housekeeper is coming, and I feel like it's weird for me to be around while she is working. I feel like if I was a housekeeper I would look forward to houses where I had the place to myself, so I could relax on the couch for a bit or take long bathroom breaks while reading their magazines. So I'm going to take a shower and then head to the library.
Brian Lamb is the best
"What does it mean to short the Euro?"
I love it when B.L. asks questions like this so that the uninitiated can keep up. He's looking out for the regular people like you and me. And even if you already know the answer to the question he asked, it's a chance to get back to the basics. You can't beat it.
Reynolds has a little bit of a snarl in his upper lip. A little bit of Elvis going on there. He definitely looks more suave on tv than he does in his hi res picture at the cato site.
Reynolds just used the term "Ponzi scheme." Which is a great name for a band I think. Also, before I forget, I think there should be a socially conscious rapper called Philly Busta. Or maybe, during a freestyle posse session, if the next rapper in line to grab the mic is wack, and so the rapper before him/her just keeps on rapping so that the wack rapper doesn't get a turn, that could be called Phillybusting.
I'm at 4.38 miles.

random notes
The woman who just called in referred to Grover Norquist, and the closed captioning typed it out as "Grover Nor Exist." It's not really funny, granted, but there is something there I think.
One fun game is to imagine that pundits that are only shown from the ribs up are wearing zubaz pants. Right now I am imagining that Allan Sloan is wearing these.
It's also funny to imagine the difference between different zubaz team colors. For example, if Allan Sloan was wearing New York Jets zubaz, that's a whole different flavor than if he was wearing Cincinatti Bengals zubaz.
I've gone 2.64 miles now, and in my minds eye Allan Sloan is using fingernail clippers to turn his Colts zubaz into cut-offs. He's stuffing the bottoms into his pockets in case he wants to use them as leg warmers later.
They just went over the numbers on the national debt. It's 7.5 trillion dollars, or about 25,000 dollars per person in the US. So when you consider that, the fact that I owe 1000 dollars to my credit card company isn't that bad.
i'm switching over to c-span 2 for a little bit of goodness...
Martin Indyk is on the mic. But that show is over I guess, he just thanked everyone for coming. WHAT? YASSIR ARAFAT DIED? Just kidding, they were showing the throbbing masses around the helicopter with his coffin all morning.
I love watching people mill around and talk on c-span when the regular programming is over. It's the best. ("Try the swordfish, Jerry, it's the best. THE BEST!")
- back to regular c-span -
Alan Reynolds is kickin it homestyle. He's a senior fellow at the Cato Institute.
So cspan says the US debt is like 60 percent of the GDP, but Reynolds is saying that the math isn't quite right. He also says that Japans debt is more than ours, or at least relative to their GDP, and yet they don't have high interest rates or a trade defecit.
Japan also owns 700 billion of our debt.
Reynolds keeps on chuckling. He doesn't giggle like Allan Sloan, but still, he's trying. He's talking from Raleigh. Is that where the Cato Institute is? No, I just checked their website, it's based in DC.
HA! Look at this "Hi-Res" picture of Reynolds they have at the Cato site. I mean really, why didn't they put up a big picture?
ok, i'm going to end on that note and publish this in case I faint. I can feel blisters developing on my legs where my thighs brush against each other. I've gone 3.82 miles.

Allan Sloan's vocal range
He's amazing! He's like Ella Fitzgerald! He goes from high notes to low notes like it's nothing.
you know what would be the best?
Fixing social security. I think we can all agree about that. People should stop pussyfooting around and just fix it.
the national debt
I actually think it's kind of cool that the US government is in debt. I'm in debt, why shouldn't the country be? What would be sweet would be if I could sell my debt to other countries, like China or Japan. Then when I was having dinner with the people who run the US budget I could be like, "You owe money to China? No way! I owe money to China! That's crazy! We're so similar in that way."
Now they're talking about the trade defecit. I think I have the US beat on trade defecit, because I buy lots of stuff and I don't make anything.
Brian Lamb was a member of the Navy, I didn't know that.
Allan Sloan just giggled like a little girl with a squirrel caught in her snowpants.

more on allan sloan
He is so symmetrical. His second chin is a little lopsided but his windsor tie know goes the other way to balance that. Other than that he is really symmetrical. Also, I like how shiny his head his. Brian Lamb's head has kind of a matte finish, but Sloan is rocking the glossy, and it works.
the first post
Ok, so it's 8:02 AM and this is my first post. Sweet. Right now I'm walking on a treadmill while I type this. I'm going 2.8 miles per hour, and I've gone .68 miles so far. I'm going to watch c-span while I walk on the treadmill and make comments, it's going to be great. Right now Brian Lamb is rocking the Washington Journal and Allan Sloan, the wall street editor of Newseek, is talking. His voice is ridiculous. He sounds like a combination of Rudy Guliani and a bullfrog. Now I've gone .83 miles, we're really cruising here.
The title of this blog "Moving the Ball Down the Field" comes from a Samantha Power speech, where she is talking about making progress in the fight to end genocide. I think it's a good concept. Think of the last couple elections like -
hold on, i'm moving my bowels -
ok, we're back in business. Think of the Republicans in the last couple elections like Michael Jackson coming out with Bad, and everyone's like, oohh, he's back, but not really, not for long, because Dangerous is coming out, and even if Remember the Time is a pretty rockin song, he's not headed in the right direction. Meanwhile, the Democrats are like Bob Dylan during his Christian phase, and everyone is like, what the heck is going on, but then he comes back and starts rocking again. Before you know it, Michael Jackson is talking about how he doesn't regret sleeping in the same bed with other people's kids, and Bob Dylan is coming out with Time Out of Mind. It's the same deal with the Republicans and the Democrats.
That is the kind of insightful political commentary you can expect here, day in and day out, until my parents kick me out of the house and I don't have access to a treadmill and c-span anymore. But until then...
